CBRE’s The ESG future for Australia’s industrial & logistics sector- The YARDS Kemps Creek

In the latest ESG in Conversation series by CBRE, Pacific Head of ESG, Su-Fern Tan, talks exclusively to  Tamara Williams, Head of ESG for Altis Property Partners and Andrew Thai, National Sustainability Manager for Frasers Property Industrial. In this insightful talk, the trio explore the real-time sustainability strategies being used by today’s leading developers to help future proof their portfolios while showcasing the unique ROI opportunities that innovation in this space can bring.

Tamara Williams, Director | ESG Altis Property Partners, a Barings company discussed how The YARDS, Kemps Creek a $1 billion project achieved the first-ever Green Star Communities rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, setting a new benchmark for industrial projects. The YARDS has also achieved the highest possible rating of 6 Stars, something that’s only ever achieved by residential, mixed use commercial and retail precincts. The YARDS is a joint venture between Frasers Property Industrial and Aware Real Estate, with approximately 400,000 square metres of industrial space spread across 77 hectares.

According to Tamara, the 6 Star Communities rating tool is focused on the ongoing management of the asset once it is tenanted. The true value of the rating lies in the management and community functions that will arise when the asset is fully tenanted. This will allow them to provide the tenants and community with real value, and extract value from the amenity and rating tool in the long run.

Su-Fern Tan, who led the discussion, praised The YARDS as an exciting project that will become a world leader in showcasing what is possible in the industrial sector from a sustainability perspective. The project’s success in achieving a 6 Star Communities rating is a testament to the team’s dedication and commitment to sustainability.

Andrew Thai, National Sustainability Manager, Frasers Property Industrial said,  ‘The idea is that this whole estate is  developing for the future, providing longevity of not only returns, but able to meet investor expectations, having a low impact, low carbon operation, that’s the whole philosophy of The YARDS.
